Biowaiver Monographs for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Enalapril

2018

Literature data relevant to the decision to allow a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence testing for the marketing authorization of immediate-release, solid oral dosage forms containing enalapril maleate are reviewed. Enalapril, a prodrug, is hydrolyzed by carboxylesterases to the active angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor enalaprilat. Enalapril as the maleate salt is shown to be highly soluble, but only 60%-70% of an orally administered dose of enalapril is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the enterocytes. Consequently, enalapril maleate is a Biopharmaceutics Classification System class III substance. Because in situ conversion of the maleate salt to the sodium salt is sometim…

GW170817: Implications for the Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background from Compact Binary Coalescences

2018

The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star background will add to the background from binary black holes, increasing the amplitude of the total astrophysical background relative to previous expectations. In the Advanced LIGO-Virgo frequency band most sensitive to stochastic backgrounds (near 25 Hz), we predict a total astrophysical background with amplitude $\Omega_{\rm…

Changes in dynamics of excess mortality rates and net survival after diagnosis of follicular lymphoma or diff use large B-cell lymphoma: comparison b…

2015

Summary Background Since 2001, the World Health Organization classification of tumours of haematopoietic and lymphoid tissues and the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (third edition) have improved data collection for lymphoma subtypes in most European cancer registries and allowed reporting on the major non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes. Treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma has changed profoundly, benefiting patients with follicular lymphoma or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We aimed to compare dynamics of cancer mortality in patients with follicular lymphoma or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in five large European areas using data for survival from the largest number of collab…

Inequalities in mortality in small areas of eleven Spanish cities (the multicenter MEDEA project)

2009

The objectives of this study are to identify inequalities in mortality among census tracts of 11 Spanish cities in the period 1996-2003 and to analyse the relationship between these geographical inequalities and socioeconomic deprivation. It is a cross-sectional ecological study where the units of analysis are census tracts. We obtained an index of socioeconomic deprivation and estimated SMR by each census tract using hierarchical Bayesian models which take into account the spatial structure. In the majority of the cities geographical patterns in total mortality were found in both sexes, which were similar to those for the index of socioeconomic deprivation. Among men, four specific causes …

Upper and lower generalized factoraggregations based on fuzzy equivalence relation

2014

We develop the concept of a general factoraggre-gation operator introduced by the authors on the basis of an equivalence relation and applied in two recent papers for analysis of bilevel linear programming solving parameters. In the paper this concept is generalized by using a fuzzy equivalence relation instead of the crisp one. By using a left-continuous t-norm and its residuum we define and investigate two modifications of such generalized construction: upper and lower generalized factoraggregations. These generalized factoraggregations can be used for construction of extensional fuzzy sets.

Up-to-date report on the distribution ofHelianthemum lippii(Cistaceae) in Italy

2015

An up-to-date report on the distribution of Helianthemum lippii in Italy is provided also on the basis of the findings by Lojacono-Pojero in 1889 who reported the existence of a relic population in Sicily (southern Italy), which is now thought to be extinct because of human disturbance. Field excursions permitted to confirm the locus classicus reported by Lojacono-Pojero as the other Sicilian localities that have been reported more recently. Based on a careful analysis of the literature the presence of H. lippii is currently excluded in Calabria and Apulia. The main causes that threaten the habitat of H. lippii in Sicily are pointed out according to IUCN Threats Classification Scheme.

Alignment Free Dissimilarities for Nucleosome Classification

2016

Epigenetic mechanisms such as nucleosome positioning, histone modifications and DNA methylation play an important role in the regulation of cell type-specific gene activities, yet how epigenetic patterns are established and maintained remains poorly understood. Recent studies have shown a role of DNA sequences in recruitment of epigenetic regulators. For this reason, the use of more suitable similarities or dissimilarity between DNA sequences could help in the context of epigenetic studies. In particular, alignment-free dissimilarities have already been successfully applied to identify distinct sequence features that are associated with epigenetic patterns and to predict epigenomic profiles…

A 3-D marker-free system for the analysis of movement disabilities--an application to the legs.

2001

The aim of this paper is to describe an approach allowing the analysis of human motion in three-dimensional (3-D) space. The system that we developed is composed of three charge-coupled-device cameras that capture synchronized image sequences of a human body in motion without the use of markers. Characteristic points belonging to the boundaries of the body in motion are first extracted from the initial images. Two-dimensional superquadrics are then adjusted on these points by a fuzzy clustering process. After that, the position of a 3-D model based on a set of articulated superquadrics, each of them describing a part of the human body, is reconstructed. An optical flow process allows the pr…
